Help underserved youth have the hands-on learning experience of growing food from seeds!

We need volunteers to help assembling and delivering DIY gardening kits and grow tools for youth at-home, hands-on learning experiences. Skills needed vary depending on the kit. People assembling the kits and delivering the kits do not need to be the same individuals. Deliveries would be required in Delray and Boynton Beach.

Description
Our Food Citizenship Institute (FCI), born out of partnership with South Tech Preparatory Academy (STPA), a Title I charter school in Boynton Beach, will launch a new generation of grassroots leaders equipped to tackle society’s most complex challenges. The FCI inspires youth to think holistically about food: from its health and environmental impact, to the role of civics and policy, to social entrepreneurship opportunities and emerging technologies. We are looking for people to join us for a variety of volunteers roles to help build this with us. If you're interested in learning more, sign up here and we'll share opportunities with you.

Seeking Engineers, Techies, Makers, and DIYers to join in fabricating & maintaining food production tools in Delray Beach and Boynton Beach. We are always interested in connecting with skilled volunteers who are interested in empowering communities through hyper local/backyard growing technologies. We currently seek volunteer support for two community projects: FarmBot (google it!) and an aquaponic system. FarmBot is a semi-autonomous backyard farming robot that maintains all the functions of a family-sized garden bed. Utilizing 3-axis CNC technology, FarmBot does everything from planting to watering to weeding. Ongoing volunteer project support is with programming, administering, and maintaining a FarmBot at a community garden in Delray Beach. We are looking to create a team of up to 6 people to share oversight responsibilities. It requires approximately 4 to 5 hours per month per teammate. Requires previous coding and/or engineering experience. Aquaponics is a form of agriculture that combines raising fish in tanks (recirculating aquaculture) with soilless plant culture (hydroponics). We are seeking 3 to 4 DIY enthusiasts to oversee aquaponic learning demo at a local garden in Delray Beach and at a school in Boynton Beach (background check required at the school). Responsibilities entail routine system checks, general maintenance, feeding fish and tending to plants. Requires 5 to 6 hours monthly and previous experience with aquaponic, gardening, aquariums or pond management as huge plus.
